Now THIS makes Aerodrums 2 not only a fantastic standalone drumming solution, but also an incredibly versatile tool for recording, performing, and producing music.

Drum response

Aerodrums’ drum response technology is what makes it the perfect choice for drummers who crave an authentic playing experience.

We designed Aerodrums 2 to have low latency and high accuracy. The time between when you hit a drum and hear the sound is minimal, to the point that you can’t perceive it. This creates a natural and immersive drumming experience that is incredibly satisfying to play.

With its advanced 3D tracking system, Aerodrums 2 captures every nuance of your playing, from the speed and intensity of your hits to the position of your drumsticks and feet. This level of precision and realism is unmatched by other drumming systems.

When you hit a drum, Aerodrums 2 uses advanced algorithms to choose an audio sample and playback volume that accurately reflects your musical intent, creating a highly responsive and expressive drumming experience.  Unlike with electronic drums, there are no distracting noises from hitting pads.

Air drumming & rebound

Yes yes, it’s true that air drumming doesn’t provide the same rebound as hitting an acoustic drum. But it’s not true that the feeling of hitting a surface is absent. By not gripping the drum stick tightly and allowing the butt of the stick to collide with your palm, it will naturally stop moving and you will feel the impact of every stroke. This feels extremely natural and it provides the crucial element of tactile feedback that lets you play fast and hit hard in a very comfortable way.

As for your feet, Aerodrums 2 supports heel up and heel down bass drum foot techniques. For those looking for the exact feel of a bass drum pedal, you can attach reflectors to actual pedals, allowing Aerodrums 2 to register hits perfectly.

One is included in the box, it is compatible with reverse beater style practice pads.

Pro drummer

Johnny Rabb, pro drummer and Aerodrums enthusiast

Benny Greb (like Johnny a pioneer in modern drumming) once told us Aerodrums wasn’t for him because he can hear what his drum set would sound like in his mind when playing with sticks only. We love Benny, he’s great. We believe most drummers have more fun and inspiration when they actually hear their playing though. And we know you’ve had many urges to try drumming ideas when you couldn’t sit at your drum set.

You’ve spent thousands of hours on your drums and practice pad. For you, practice is mostly about maintaining skills. Still our money is on air drumming improving your chops even further. It’s just a bonus of playing Aerodrums.

The next generation

Wondering how Aerodrums 2 compares to our original model? Well it has taken us 7 years to incorporate all the lessons learnt from users of the original. We’ve redesigned Aerodrums 2 from the ground up so that it no longer requires a computer and can be set up in seconds.

Our infrared sensor ensures robust performance in brightly lit environments, even on stage. Take a look below at all that’s changed.

Tech specs

While the original Aerodrums requires a separate computer to power, Aerodrums 2 IS the computer. But blazing fast motion tracking and ultra-low latency audio rendering don’t come cheap. Aerodrums 2 is impressively powerful, featuring a multicore CPU, a high-speed mocap sensor, and enough space to store thousands of high fidelity drum samples. With this power, Aerodrums 2 can detect the minutest of hits and the fastest of rolls with no perceptible latency.

Rich schedule of upcoming new features

Aerodrums 2’s powerful and versatile hardware allow for a limitless number of new features to be added. For example, the ability to output a separate audio channel for each drum via USB for stage mixing. And of course, new drum pieces and drum sets.

Here is the list of upcoming features, to be published as over-the-air updates in the order listed.

Upcoming feature: drum set customization

This will allow you to create custom drum sets with the drum pieces of your choice, and to adjust the placement of drum pieces.

Upcoming feature: minigames

Animated picture of an upcoming Aerodrums 2 minigame

Minigames are drumming exercises disguised as games. There will be minigames training different aspects of drumming, like speed, time keeping, limb independence, sight reading, and more.

Upcoming feature: playalongs

Animated picture of the upcoming Aerodrums play along mode

Playalongs are full songs with the drums removed, for you to drum along to. They will come with a drum transcription that is annotated on the fly with how well you are playing (think Rock Band / Guitar Hero, but with drum notation).

The Aerodrums 2 app will score your performances so you can measure your progress. You will be able to slow playback down to build confidence.

Upcoming feature: lessons

Animated picture of the upcoming Aerodrums 2 lesson mode

Lessons will progressively be released covering a full curriculum from complete beginners (e.g. how to hold the drum sticks) to advanced players (e.g. metric modulation). The lessons will feature drum notation, including teaching you how to read it.

The Aerodrums 2 app will accurately grade your progress: It evaluates if you are hitting the right drums at the right time, with the correct hand. This is unique to Aerodrums 2: pad based electronic drums cannot tell your left stick from your right.
