Tips/Feature Request for Kit Placement

Post by aams » Sun Jun 14, 2026 10:06 pm

Hi folks,

I just got my Aerodrums 2 and they’re *way* better than I thought they were going to be. I’m extremely impressed after even just about a week.

Something I think would be really useful, especially to a novice player like me, would be either some “tips” on how to place the pieces of the kit around you or some automation to do it *for* you.

A static set of pro-tips on how to place things would be great. For example, even linking to some tutorials or YouTube videos. If anyone has any tips or links on how I should approach this I’d appreciate it! I’m fairly tall, about 190 cm, and lanky so the default kit placement felt a little “squashed” to me.

I’ve adjusted the kits I use and I’ve found it’s even easier to play without incorrectly triggering the wrong piece of kit but I’m not sure if there are other factors I should be taking into consideration while making these adjustments.

As for automation, I’m not sure how the internals of the system works, but for an automated approach this is my idea. Since the IR camera can measure X, Y, and Z distances, I think you might be able to take a series of snapshots to get a set of measurements to allow optimal placement of the kit around the player:
  • Snapshot of the tips of the sticks on the player’s knees while in playing position - provides the actual height of the players legs and roughly the bottom of their torso
  • Snapshot of the tips of the sticks on the player’s shoulders - provides the width of the player’s torso and torso height
  • Snapshot of the tips of the sticks with the player’s arms directly forward - provides the length of the player’s arms
I *think* with these three measurements you could “automatically” figure out how high each piece of kit should be and how far away each piece of kit should be based on the player’s own anatomy. Even if each kit shipped with 3 or 4 “preset” placements (e.g. “compact”, “comfortable”, “wide”) and it auto-selected the most standard for your dimensions would be a helpful starting point.

Would love people’s thoughts on this or any tips people might have handy on how to get a good set up! Thanks in advance!

Hi, thanks for these suggestions about automatic drum piece placement. Our original plan was to only have preset drum sets with lots of variants for each drum set to cater to people of differing height. But that was before we added drum set customization to the app so we didn't end up adding all the additional presets. It's still something we should do. Either something along the lines of what you suggested or, perhaps a simpler version where a slider is used to specify your height and that value is used to space out the drums. Anyway, it would be feasible to implement your suggestion so we will consider it for a future software update.

In the meantime, in case you're not aware, there is a "Hit to Place" button in the top right corner of the drum set editor screen. You can use this to place pieces by hitting the air. That might be a useful way to position your pieces initially and get a feel for how much space there should be between them.
