Crash Cymbal Chokes

Post by andrepolvo » Sun Aug 31, 2025 4:29 am

Using a VST, I can use a choked crash, but if I'm playing multiple cymbals and use that choked crash, all the others will continue to sound. Would it be possible to create a sample so that all the cymbals are muted? It would be a sample with specific instructions or commands to mute them all at the same time.
Can you understand? I'll leave a video of me playing with this; don't mind my crazy look.

Hi, we haven't looked in much detail at how various drum VSTs handle choking so achieving what you describe might be very dependent on the plugin.

For example, I think some VSTs will choke all cymbals in response to receiving a particular MIDI note. Whereas for other VSTs, each cymbal will have its own choke note.

We do plan to add choking support to Aerodrums 2 in the near future. The way this will (likely) work is that you move your hand close to a cymbal to choke it and that action will trigger a particular MIDI note that you can configure.

If you let me know which VST you are using, I can have a look to see if what we plan to do will be enough to solve your problem.
