Aerodrum 2 firmware update tracking affected

Post by Trialdrummer » Thu Mar 27, 2025 5:10 am

Hello, I absolutely loved playing around with the Aerodrums2, however when I connected to the app it updated the firmware and the tracking (for snares specifically) got noticably poorer. While it picked up rapid snare rolls earlier it completely goes silent if I try to play notes rapidly now. Could you kindly look into this? (To clarify, the tracking under the lighting settings looks perfect, but sound is skipping. If I look at the drum visualization, the hands and drumsticks vanish when the sound skips).

Thanks for letting us know. We have not seen this in our testing but it sounds like a marker tracking problem.
If you could answer these questions it would help a lot:
1) Did you try powering off the Aerodrums 2 device and turning it back on - does the same problem occur?
2) Does the problem also happen when using Aerodrums 2 without any app connected?
3) Did the environment/lighting conditions change compared to when it was working well - is it possible there were reflective surfaces or light sources visible now that weren't visible before?
4) Were you also wearing the foot pieces when you experienced the problem?

- Powering off and on the Areodrum2 did not change the behavior.
- The problem was worse when connected to the app (if I close the app after it was connected the skipping problem persists. On the app it shows as missing hands during the skip). Before connecting to the app the skipping feel much, much fewer
- Apart from the firmware the only change was that the environment went from daylight to night time (warm LED lights). I can try again in daylight today and report back
- Yes, I was wearing the foot reflectors the whole time.

Happy to confirm the problem went away ENTIRELY in daylight. Tracking worked just fine with the app or without the app. I will play around again in the evening to see if brighter lighting fixes the issue..

Editing to add that the skipping problem returned under room lights. (Fluorescent bulb simulating incandescent light - not LED - warm yellow). Any suggestions on whether I should try more light or less light?

Another edit - I replaced the bulbs with LED with 5000 color temperature (simulating daylight), and the tracking is perfect again. Conclusion is the camera is likely sensitive to ambient light of certain wavelengths?

Thanks for your replies and good to hear you were able to figure that out.

Bulbs that emit too much infrared light can be problematic. LEDs will be fine. We believe normal fluorescent bulbs are ok too - are you sure the bulb that was causing an issue was a standard fluorescent one? Incandescent bulbs can be a problem but these are becoming increasingly uncommon due to their inefficiency.
