Adding songs from Mac, and suggestions
Adding songs from Mac, and suggestions
Hello, I just got my Aerodrums 2 kit and I'm having a great time. A couple of issues I'm having...adding songs from a Mac isn't working. I've put in the correct url of the machine and the mp3 files, but it just keeps giving me an error saying unsupported type. Both devices are on the same wifi, and I've checked and double checked the url I'm entering. I know you are working on a new software update to address this, hoping that releases soon. If possible, it would be great if we could use a USB drive (with a USB-C adapter connected to the Aerodrums device)to pull mp3 files from. Another issue you might want to put into the manual...if you have the app open on your computer or iPad, and try to connect from the Meta Quest headset, it will just keep trying to connect. But as soon as you quit the app (from the iPad for me) the Quest app sees the device. So if you use a Quest headset, you need to be sure any app connected to the device is closed. One other bit of info your users might find helpful...if you have drumsticks from the older Aerodrums 1 device, they seem to work just fine on the Aerodrums 2.
Re: Adding songs from Mac, and suggestions
Hi, are you on the latest update (app v6 / firmware v5)? If so, the Files panel in the app should have a button next to the URL text field. When you click this button it will pop up a normal file browser where you can point to MP3 files. This also supports selecting multiple files at once and selecting folders. If you are still getting the unsupported file type error, could you send one of the MP3s to our support email address and we'll check why it's not working.
Regarding the Meta Quest issue, currently only one instance of the Aerodrums 2 app can be connected to your Aerodrums 2 device at any time. As you discovered, that means that if you have the app running on your iPad then it won't be possible to use the app on your Meta Quest (or any other device) until you close it on your iPad.
Finally, about the drumstick markers, it might seem like they are functioning well but the reflective balls used by Aerodrums 2 are smaller than the ones used by Aerodrums 1 so using the wrong balls will affect how precisely the software recovers the 3D position of the drumstick tip.

Re: Adding songs from Mac, and suggestions
Thanks for the reply. How does the unit go about getting firmware updates? Does it happen automatically or is there a place where I can check for updates? I think I’m at the current firmware release. See the pic attached.

Re: Adding songs from Mac, and suggestions
I can see that you are up to date. If you are connected to the Aerodrums 2 device using your home WiFi then the app will check for updates automatically when you run it. If instead you are connected using the Aerodrums-XXXX hotspot then no internet access will be available so those checks won't happen.
Is this a screenshot from your Mac or from an iPad? The file browsing functionality is only available on the Mac and Windows versions of the app - in the Files panel you will see a button labelled "..." to the right of the "Install" button.

That screenshot was from an iPad. This screenshot is from my Mac Mini M2 Pro running Sequoia. I don't see the 3 dots you mentioned, and as far as I can tell, this is the latest Mac version.

Re: Adding songs from Mac, and suggestions
That's very strange. I'm not sure why you're not seeing the extra button on the Files panel. I tried to reproduce it now on a MacBook Air and it is working as expected.
We will try to test it on some other MacBooks but if any other users reading this have the same problem with app v6, please let us know.

Re: Adding songs from Mac, and suggestions
I deleted the app from my Mac, and redownloaded from the app store. This version says it is v1.6 when you get info on the app. It still isn't showing the 3 dots, I'm wondering if the app store doesn't have the most recent version. Can I download the app from you directly?
One thing I just noticed...in the Mac app store when I search for Aerodrums 2 it shows up, but it is showing up in the iPhone/iPad section. When I specifically search for the Mac version of the app, it doesn't show up. It almost seems like the Mac app is somehow in the iPhone/iPad app section. Not sure if that is happening to anyone else. When I got on a very old MacBook Air and searched the app store, nothing came up except the iPhone/iPad versions. Very strange. The second picture is the Mac app store listing (using a Mac). You can see that it is showing under the iPhone/iPad section.

Re: Adding songs from Mac, and suggestions
Ah, that would explain it! It seems you had installed the iOS version of the Aerodrums 2 app on your MacBook.
You need the native MacBook version which isn't currently available on the Mac App Store and can only be downloaded from here: https://aerodrums.com/app

Re: Adding songs from Mac, and suggestions
Ok, we're narrowing it down. The version I downloaded directly from you (https://fc-distribution.s3.us-west-2.am ... -macOS.zip) DOES have the 3 dots. The version that is on the app store does not. Also if you click the Apple App Store link from your website, it takes you to a version that does not have the 3 dots. Here is a screenshot of details of each version, on the left is the Mac App Store app, on the right is the app directly from the link above. They seem to be completely different versions, notice the size difference, and one is Universal, while the other is Apple Silicon. When I use the app downloaded from your link, I can add songs easily after clicking the 3 dots.
Re: Adding songs from Mac, and suggestions
I can see how that webpage might be confusing. The link to the Apple App Store is intended to be used to install the app on iPads and iPhones, while the link further below is for MacBooks. We will update the page to make this clearer. Thanks.
