Aerodrums and Aered forums

Hey everyone. I feel like this wasn't happening my first couple days playing (I'm a fairly new user), but I've noticed now that I can hit way off into empty space and it still triggers a drum. Is that normal behavior?

I'm using a custom set right now with just a snare, one tom above the snare, and a floor tom. If I start playing continuous 8th notes on the snare and slowly start moving diagonally to the right and move into the gap between the toms, it'll continue registering snare hits even though I'm not making contact with the snare anymore (at least according to what I'm seeing on the screen on my laptop).

Does the software not allow for gaps between the drums or something? Or is this most likely a configuration/technical issue on my end?

Yes it is normal. The software will trigger a drum for every hit (to my knowledge).

I'll definitely be upgrading when it's out anyway, but I was wondering with the new camera/sensor if it will still function this way.

I haven't received my unit yet, but I think I've read somewhere that Aerodrums 2 will not play anything if you hit empty space. It's probably configurable how accurate you need to be, but in any case hitting far away from any drum will not trigger a sound.

Yes, tanuk is correct. Aerodrums will trigger whichever drum is closest to the stick at the moment you make a hitting gesture. Once you understand this, it shouldn't be a problem, as you generally won't be making hitting gestures unless you intend to hit a drum.

That said, Aerodrums 2 has a distance threshold setting, which disregards hits that occur further from the closest drum than the set threshold. For some people, this may be useful to prevent mistriggers on wide backswing hits. However, the smaller the threshold, the more accurate you need to be.
