Notation Key "Special Rows"

Post by EvenSteven » Sun Mar 29, 2026 4:39 pm

I have questions about the Notation Key; specifically the two rows: “Half Open HH” and “Open Hi-Hat” and the corresponding two columns at far right. How can I use these?

The left group of columns [for those voices] is restricted (X-d out) so they cannot be assigned to a row or a space.

Hi, the half-open/open hi-hat rows are a special case because they are connected to the closed hi-hat row. You can change the staff line that is used for the hi-hat but you can't use the half-open/open hi-hat symbols for other drums.
