Silent Djembe

Hi..Here’s a fun experiment I’ve recently had with making a ‘silent Djembe ‘ utilising the spare reflector balls that are provided with the Aerodrums kit.
The idea works just as well with sticks but I created finger controllers from 2 lengths of Velcro tape and 2 self adhesive double-sided tape pads.
I recorded my 12” Djembe with 20-30 velocity layers each hand, and arranged 3 ‘zones’ like this..
Here’s a sound demo of my 1st test drive..

And here’s with a backing track..

Obviously it’s difficult to replicate all the various sounds and nuances that are possible with such a natural instrument, but it’s fun being able to have a silent Djembe
Cheers!
