Have you considered using sensors instead ?

Hi Richard,

Have seen freedrum ?
That guy is using sensors to detect drumming.
But that system seems to be really bad.
Have you considered using positioning sensors instead of a light based system ?
There can be gyroscopes on the sticks and feet.
Also some king of spatial detection sensors to detect where you're hitting, something like gps but local. Not sure if that makes sense, but you should look into using accelerometers, gyroscopes and such sensors to detect drum playing. It would make aerodrums robust and definitely va new instrument playable in all lighting conditions.

We spent a good deal of time back in 2016 working on a prototype to investigate the potential of accelerator/gyroscope technology but concluded that there was no hope of replicating the Aerodrums experience given the inherent limitations of that technology, namely calibration drift and inability to accurately measure large velocities. Added latency due to wireless communication between the drumsticks and computer was also a factor.

Ok, thanks for the response, i hope someday the technology matures and we can have a truely portable air drumming system.
