How to NOT use a real bass drum pedal

Post by steull6163 » Mon Jun 01, 2026 12:43 pm

I want to play fast doubles on the bass drum but I find it "aesthetically unsightly" to use a bass drum pedal: I have no drums, I want no gear.
I asked myself: how can I "pretend" the rebound of the pedal just as we pretend the rebound of the drum head by tapping the stick end into the hand for double stroke rolls? So I got a spring from a sofa to get my foot back quickly :)

Interesting! Does it work as well as you were hoping? It feels like it might be hard to keep your foot balanced on the spring?

We have experimented with a marker attached to the Hansen Futz practice pedal which also has a large spring. It works well for the hi-hat pedal but doesn't feel quite right as a bass drum pedal.

If you have any video to share we would love to see it in action.
