Downward tails

Might there be or any plans to support downward tails for bass and HH notes in the feet? Thanks

A design choice we made early on was to not have support for setting stem direction. One of the things that makes Aered easy to use is that you don't need to worry about stems, no matter where notes are placed. We try to stem upwards when possible but stem downwards as well when the notation is too complex to facilitate only stemming upwards.

For example, if you notate a single quarter note as 4 16th notes on the snare and 3 8th note triplets on the bass drum then Aered will make the snare notes stem up and the triplets stem down.

If we let the user override this and set stem direction it would make things a lot more complicated as it would be impossible to automatically generate clean notation 100% of the time that doesn't have overlapping elements. A secondary reason for not allowing control over stem direction is to keep the interface as simple as possible.

In hindsight, cases where overlapping elements would occur in practice are rare and a lot of people prefer to use downward stems for the feet. So it definitely would be very useful to have the ability to override stem direction. We would like to address this at some point but it is not a very high priority right now.
