how to record session to video using mac book pro

Postby rbreed3399 » Tue Jun 07, 2016 6:03 pm

I am a dummy regarding creation of audio and video, so I'm asking for help/ suggestions/ tips on how to record a drumming session on Aerodrums to video using MacBook Pro. Is there a good app or software program (relatively cheap) that I can use to record my drumming sessions to video? I am using OSX Yosemitie 10.10.5 on MB Pro?

Many thanks for any help you can provide on this.

I assume you're talking about recording what's on the screen.
We just used the built-in Quicktime Player for this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Kl9Mw_kqME.
If you launch it and choose File -> New Screen Recording, a record button will appear that you can press.
It's very easy to use and produces fine results but I can't remember if this will record audio as well.
If it doesn't, I'm sure there are better programs that will or you can always record the drumming audio separately using Aerodrums' built-in recording feature and then add the audio track to the video afterwards.

Hi Richard- thanks for the quick response. Ironically, I cannot get the recording feature in your software to work. Not sure if this is a software issue or hardware issue on my end. Would you be able to provide me with instructions on how to record using your software, so I can be sure I'm taking the right measures here.

Also, I plan to purchase a new laptop in the coming weeks b/c this one is aging and on the brink of failure, and I want to be able to transfer the Aerodrum software to this new laptop. Is this possible or do I need to purchase a new download code?

Cheers,

Richard

You can only access the record button in Aerodrums from the drumming menu. Enter the menu by hovering your stick over the "Menu" button for a second or two and then hit it. You'll then see the "Record" button in the top left. Hit this button with a stick to start recording. While recording, the border of the screen will flash red. If you want to play along to a track you can start a song playing from the drumming menu. When you're finished drumming go back to record button (which will now be labelled "Stop Recording") and hit it.

Every time you make a recording it will appear in the Recording screen. You can get to this screen by clicking on the Recordings button that you see after running Aerodrums. From here you can play back and manage your recordings. When you've found a take you like you can export it to a .wav file that you can add to your video footage.

You will be able to use the same product code to do a fresh install of Aerodrums on your new laptop. If you have custom data (e.g. drum kits) that you set up in Aerodrums and you don't want to loose, let me know and I can give you some extra instructions on how transfer this data to your new laptop.
