Latency with Bluetooth headphones

Post by xANGELx » Sat Apr 11, 2015 1:15 pm

Hi,

I'd like to know if it's normal to listen drum hits with a latency when I use my bluetooh headphones connected to my computer (headset --> Philips SHB-5500); I mean if this can be due to bluetooth technology... even using iTunes or MediaPalyer I haven't "suffered".

Thanx!,

Hello there,

yes it is normal to be unable to play a musical instrument using Bluetooth headphones. The Bluetooth protocol is not designed to minimize latency and is therefore unsuitable for music making.
You don't feel the latency when using iTunes because it doesn't really matter if the song starts 10ms or 100ms after you press "play".

If you place your computer nearer to you on a stool or a chair, the shortness of your headphones cable should not be a problem. There is always the solution of getting a jack extension or headphones with a longer cable.

1st of all thanx you for your prompt reply!

And OK, now I'm certain that I can't use my BT headphones and I'd buy some "decent" one with cable ;-)

Thank you,
