windows sounds disabled

Hey folks,

when starting Aerodrums, no other sounds are available. No spotify, youtube, system sounds - nothing else but aerodrums.
This makes it pretty difficult to learn playing the drums (e.g. watching a tutorial on youtube on a second screen).
Is there a way to fix this problem?

regards,
Raphael

p.s.
using Windows 8.1

This is normal behaviour if you have Aerodrums set to use the Exclusive WASAPI audio device in the Latency screen. This is the recommended setting because it takes exclusive control over your sound card, thus preventing other applications from being able to output sound. It's a necessary evil if you want the best drumming experience because it gives the lowest audio latency.

If you want the ability to watch YouTube or use Spotify while Aerodrums is running (and not just play along to song files which Aerodrums supports) then the best solution is to go to the Latency screen and change the audio device to Shared WASAPI. This will prevent Aerodrums from having exclusive control over the sound card but at the cost of increased latency. You will probably find it acceptable but we recommend that you switch back to the Exclusive WASAPI when you don't need to hear sound from other programs.
