Hi

Is the Aerodrums system compatible with a Microsoft Surface Pro (first generation)?

Thanks,

Chris.

Hello, looking at the specifications, I can't see why it wouldn't work: it does run Windows 8 and has a recent processor and graphics card. We have not tested it though.
There are a couple of things I'd like to point your attention to:

-The surface only has one USB port, and Aerodrums needs both the camera and lamp to be plugged-in. You may be able to use a USB hub, but we usually don't recommend it because your mileage may vary depending on the power supplied by the Surface to its USB port, and on the quality of the hub you use. The lamp only needs power, so you could connect it to a simple USB charger (I believe the Surface's charger itself has a USB outlet). You would need to setup near a power socket in this case. This leads me to the second point:

-Aerodrums uses a lot of computing power to process the high speed video coming from the camera. So if you drum without connecting your Surface to a power socket, it will probably drain your battery much faster than you are used to.

Because Aerodrums cannot work outside in daylight, having to be near a power socket isn't that much of an extra limitation.

Hi,

Thanks for the in-depth and informative reply. There won't be any problems accessing a power socket so I think I'll take the plunge (I'm based in the UK so will purchase it from Amazon's UK site). Would I be able to return it if for any reason it doesn't work on the Surface Pro?

Thanks,

Chris.

Yes, you have 30 days from delivery to return it. You don't even need a reason ;) If you buy the camera on Amazon.co.uk, it should be the same.
