Specifications

HI,

These look amazing. I live in a tiny flat and there's four of us. Neither myself or my son have a hope of ever fitting in a drum kit! (he might fit in one, but that's not what i mean :)) The specs on the site mention a dedicated graphics card. Is this totally essential? I have a core i5 8gm ram 64 bit laptop but it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card in it. Are we likely to have 'some problems' or is it a complete nogo? We're not pro's and wouldn't be recording. Is it the visual interface that would suffer and the sound be OK?

Many thanks in advance

Giles

Just to say thanks for the reply to my email. I'm pretty sure the intel HD 4000 runs opengl well enough. I'll try the Aered software as you suggested. And thanks for the encouraging suggestion that you'd look into patches for people who struggle with performance! (thought i'd post here so no one thought I was being ignored)

Thx
Giles

Sorry GilesDH, we were recovering from NAMM, we had a great time there, everyone loved Aerodrums, but it was very frantic.

Like you mentioned, if you can run Aered smoothly, then Aerodrums should run fine. Really it is only computers that are not designed to render 3D graphics at all (like low end business laptops) that will struggle running Aerodrums.
We are working on making Aerodrums less demanding on the graphics capabilities of the computer.

Let us know how things go if you do decide to purchase Aerodrums. It's great for drumming in a small flat (provided you can convince people not to step between you and the camera too often ;) ).

Well I bought them!

I'm in Spain so they haven't arrived yet. I can't wait. They really are my only solution. Real drums are out of the question. I think these might turn out to be quite surreal drums. I do have a toddler that might keep getting in the way of the camera, but then he'd actually try to climb real drums, so there's another plus to Aerodrums! Dangerous climbing frame denied!

You say that it only works on vista upwards, but you say the same for Aered, and I just tried that and it works on PC that runs XP, although I didn't explore the functionality very deeply. Is it possible that Aerodrums will works on XP too?

I suppose I can answer that myself in about 5 days! I'll let you know

Giles

GilesDH, thank you for deciding to try Aerodrums, I have sent you a PM.

Unfortunately Aerodrums doesn't run on XP right now, I have added that to the requested feature list.
Our current priority is to lower the computer requirements so that you do not need a dedicated graphics card.

I will post again when we have made progress.

Did it arrive? Mine is due today !!

Sad thing is that something has happened that will mean I have a really busy weekend!

I was hoping to be busy drumming and nothing else :)

They arrived on Friday. I'm not an expert drummer, not even good, but I don't notice a single performance issue on my Dell latitude with core i5 with 8gb of ram and no dedicated graphics card (has an HD4000). The little Red green indicator sometimes flashes red but I've set the latency down as low as it will go (0 Ms). It works just great and I think they're an amazing drumming experience and they sound fantasic. I can even set it to the shared sound setting and play Spotify through my stereo at the same time.

The only issue I have is not having a dedicated space. My flat is almost too cramped even for aerodrums! The limitations imposed by the need for flat lighting are acceptable and unavoidable but I'm struggling to find a suitable place to play around the rest of the activity at home.

Would it be possible to introduce some sort of masking system? I'd imagine the top right and left corners would rarely be needed, the bottom corners too, but you might also be able to introduce a way of scrubbing out an interfering light to make the system ignore it? My home has too many small lights and reflective surfaces.

I don't doubt I just need to work out the best spots for playing. I think a cloudy day is better than night time. People in the UK will be happy.

The only other issue I have is that my bluetooth headphones don't seem to allow a sound setting that works with aerodrums. The drop down in sound settings where you'd normally choose 44200 or whatever it is, is greyed out. Do you have any experience of that? Is it just that I have rubbish headphones.? Maybe it's a driver issue.

Anyway, most annoying of all is that I've had so little time to play these incredible sounding drums. They really are quite an amazing achievement. I'd post a video but I'm too shy and rubbish at drumming ;)

GilesDH, thank you for writing up your first experience.

About the small lights issue, we considered an automatic masking mode, but it didn't make it to release because we were worried it could be confusing (because it creates blind areas where you can't hit drums). I am adding it to the feature requests to help people in your case. We'll need to think about how to implement it so it is as little confusing as possible.

About your bluetooth audio device. I have to admit we did not foresee the possibility that a device wouldn't support 44100Hz sampling rates, as it is a very established standard (from Audio CDs). Could you tell me the model of your bluetooth headphones?

Are you able to select Exclusive WASAPI in the Latency screen? Does this mode work with your headphones? This will force you to use Aerodrums' playlist feature instead of Spotify to play songs, but you will also get the best latency.
