"Modded" my Aerodrums "pedals" today

Post by Naigewron » Tue May 13, 2014 4:40 pm

Hey!

Thought I'd share this idea with you. It really helped me with getting a real pedal feel from my Aerodrums for those times when I can make a liitle bit more noise (ie. when my better half isn't home :D ).

I had a pair of DW B.O.A. Practise Pedals laying around. These are spring loaded from the back of the pedal board, which means there's no beater or chain mechanism in the way. This allowed me to just slip the toe markers right over the end and play, and I instantly felt so much more comfortable. My hands have very little problems with airdrumming, but I could never get comfortable with my feet playing heel up on the floor. I could "play" well enough, but because of the way my foot moves in between strokes (always lightly bouncing on the balls of my feet) I would generally register a lot of strokes that weren't meant to be there.

I think these pedals are discontinued, but if you can find one or two of them on eBay or laying around in the bargain bin of your local drum store, I can highly recommend them as an accessory to an Aerodrums setup.

edit: There are other beaterless practise pedals out there too, such as Hansenfutz.

Very good, you just beat Richard to it, he's working on a video showing that kind of stuff.

Great idea! Shortly after I first tried ADrums I tried using the Roland v-drum snare in front of the camera as a surface to get more precise response for ghost strokes, rolls etc. If the tips of the sticks could be made more resilient, these types of integration could be perfect for some users.

Sorry it's a bit late but for people following this thread but not the Aerodrums blog, here is the link to the video we made about feet:

About changing the sticks to accomodate hitting sticks, several people have suggested it so we are looking into it.
It is not high on our list of things to get done, mainly because with think it is very rewarding with Aerodrums to try and use the technique Richard shows in this video:

Of course we realize it is a big ask to suggest people learn a different sticking technique.
