Drumming Science Project

Post by Richard » Wed Oct 21, 2015 6:06 pm

We just put up a blog post about some interesting research Philip Moriarty from the University of Nottingham is doing with a couple of his students. They plan to analyse the performances of various drummers playing Neil Peart's beat from Tom Sawyer and Jeff Porcaro's beat from I Keep Forgetting'.

We encourage you to help out with this research and submit your own recordings of these beats, ideally using Aerodrums. They are keen to do some analysis specifically about the effects that air drumming has on your ability to play so the findings would be of great interest to us. Of course this is dependent on the researchers receiving sufficient data.

If you own Aerodrums and have some time please consider recording yourself playing these beats and sending your WAV/MP3 on to drumsciproject@gmail.com. They say that if you can isolate the hi-hat, that's even better. That should be easy in Aerodrums. Just click the 'One wav per element' checkbox in the Recordings screen when you're exporting to WAV and it will save the hi-hat track to a separate WAV file.

You can find more information about this project here.

Thanks,
Richard

Interesting Richard, especially so that Aerodrums is featured so much as well. Here's my humble contribution with just the Tom Sawyer intro :-). http://youtu.be/EGWm-6tKqR4

Cheers!
