Apology about the spam and measures taken

Post by Sipaliwini » Sun Dec 14, 2014 3:03 pm

We are terribly sorry about the recent spike in spam messages.
After doing a bit of research it turns out that progress in "spam bot" technology may have enabled them to use Google to find out that John Bonham was the drummer of Led Zep!
We have changed the user registration question to address this.

If spam continues, which means the spammers were human after all, we will introduce moderation of the first post of new users.

Thank you for your patience,

sincerely,

Yann

Ok that's it, there seems to be an army of human Christmas spammers out there.

Newly registered users will need to have one post approved by us before they get full access to the forum.

We will review this when the spamming calms down, or if this doesn't fix it.

This last crafty spammer registered a while ago and laid low before striking.
There may be a few more of those but once they are dealt with, the current measures seem to be working.

We will improve the forum behavior over time, it is currently asking to re-login too often.
