Any Updates Coming?

Guys,

Any idea on when an update for Aered is coming? It seems like all the attention has been going to Aerodrums, and I completely understand! That's an awesome looking and really innovative program. But it seems like there has been talk for about 2 years of an update coming, covering some of the stuff people wanted, but nothing has come out.

I know I have written before about more lines on the staff, allowing more places for the different pieces to go; and others have wanted more than just 4 for the time signatures, as well as an easy way to label R and L sticking etc.

I'm not sure what language it's programmed in, but if there are no plans to go commercial with it later on, maybe allowing an open source approach might help. I know you had talked about integrating it with Aerodrums at some point, so I understand open source might not be a possibility. It's a great program, and I'd love to keep using it! But the limitations on it do cut down on its' usefulness.

Thanks,
Doug

Hi Doug,

I apologise for the lack of updates and our claims that an update was imminent. We did some substantial work on Aered last year, in particular on making a new notation engine that would support arbitrary time signatures and subdivisions. It really wasn't our plan to halt this. We worked hard on porting Aered to Mac OS X after we got lots of requests to do so and at the time we did this with a view to extending Aered and continuously releasing new versions.

Unfortunately, like you said, our focus on Aerodrums has prevented us from completing this. Currently our development efforts are focused on finishing the 3D/VR support for Aerodrums so that an update can be released in a couple of months.

The work we did on Aered last year won't be wasted. I can't say at this time when we will re-focus our attention back to Aered but it is still the plan and will remain so. The only reason we haven't released the requested features for Aered yet is lack of time - not lack of interest or enthusiasm or any intention to make it less accessible in the future.

Richard,

I wish I could send you a whole bunch of time that you lack for you to release a new update a the fantastic drum notation tool. :D

Hey all, I am a new Aered user and I echo everyone else's sentiments in saying that this is truly an awesome resource for drummers of all walks and I thank you whole-heartedly for developing this!

I replied to this thread as I noticed it hasn't gotten an official response in a little while ... and I need to tab out a weird over/16 bar in a progression for someone :P Just curious if anything has developed in the time since this thread was initiated or if anyone can think of a work-around on this. I need to add one bar of 5/16 in between 4/4 progressions.

Also, is it possible to take one bar I've made in a project and move it elsewhere? I know it says that standard keyboard shortcuts work for this in the manual, but I haven't had any luck with this yet myself.

Cheers and the best,
Ben

Hi Ben, unfortunately there is no way to tab a 5/16 bar until we release a new version of Aered that uses the new notation engine. There is still a large amount of work left to be done on this so it won't be released any time soon.

The copy/paste feature should work for you. You can use the usual ctrl+x/c/v keys to move bars in the layout pane or if you want more control you can click+drag to select sequences of notes in the editor pane. Unfortunately this data doesn't stay in the clipboard if you quit Aered so if you want to move bars between projects you have to do so within a running instance of Aered. If it's still not working for you, let me know.
